Janet Mulu

Janet is a Trade & investment specialist with 15+ years’ professional experience mainly obtained through working for various pan-African banks. Her previous role was with Ecobank Kenya Ltd as a Trade Finance & Products Manager where she structured, developed and offered various products and related trainings both in country and across the EAC. In 2016, she was assigned to train the trade managers and relationship teams in Ecobank Uganda on trade products and how best to apply them.  Additionally, she was also involved in training Ecobank clients as part of commercialization of products.  Janet also represented the bank on various platforms (workshops & seminars) as the banks trade expert where she sensitized the stakeholders on various banks’ trade products. At her capacity of Manager-International Trade Centre (ITC) at Stanbic Bank, she was involved in monthly training sessions offered to the branch managers and Heads of service support.

She is the Founder and CEO of ImpactDev Africa which aims to foster trade in Africa through offering technical support and training. She is also an independent consultant with Lean Africa Consultants Ltd where she has been offering trainings around trade solutions for the infrastructure sector in addition to her advisory role. The most recent training entitled ‘Structuring innovative trade finance solutions for infrastructure projects ‘ was delivered in Feb 2021 to a group of analyst from the ‘The Africa Project finance program’. Janet is also passionate about women economic empowerment and sits on the advisory board of the Young Women Social Entrepreneurs (YWSE) Nairobi Chapter where she has offered trainings on trade finance for entrepreneurs. In 2020, Janet created awareness on AfCFTA to various groups including the Commonwealth Business Women Network, Kenya (CBWN-K) where she is a member.  She also sits on two other impact-driven non-for profit organisations.

Janet holds an MSc in International Trade & Finance from London Metropolitan University, MBA in Finance from Newport University and is an accredited International Trade Specialist (ITS). She is a beneficiary of various trainings on trade such as; Certificate in Finance of International Trade (FIT) by the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) and IFC’s training on (i) basic principles of trade and (ii) advanced trade training and other Structured Trade & Commodity Finance trainings.
